Job description

DoF provides the NICS and other public bodies with money, staff, professional services and business support systems, helping them to deliver excellent, value for money public services. The department is committed to deliver effective and efficient public services. DoF has approximately 3,500 permanent staff. The Departments overall aim is to help NICS departments make the most appropriate and effective use of resources and services for the benefit of the community. It does this by managing public money, supporting our people, transforming and innovating, providing evidence and insights and delivering public services. .

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship Design. Undertake part time study supported by the NICS to achieve a level 5 Electrical Engineering qualification.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team on construction projects to provide an engineering service, such as designing electrical distribution systems.
  • cables and power circuits, lighting, fire alarm system, heating controls, intruder alarm systems, renewable energy, IT infrastructure, emergency lighting.
  • Provide engineering and construction procurement advice to client Departments and other public bodies.
  • Assist in the assessment of engineering submissions from external design teams.
  • Assist in the monitoring and reporting on contract Key Performance Indicators.
  • Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship Property Maintenance.
  • The management, direction & supervision of maintenance services in a wide range of public sector properties.
  • The delivery of remedial and other projects associated with PPM services and planned maintenance projects relating to electrical distribution systems.
  • cables and power circuits, lighting, fire alarm system, heating controls, intruder alarm systems, renewable energy, IT infrastructure, emergency lighting.
  • Monitor, assess and report on the quality of contractor service delivery by various means including on-site inspections, reviewing contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), consultation with clients, etc.
  • Review and update asset database, adding and removing clients, properties and services as required.
  • Advising clients on a variety of engineering related issues including planned preventative maintenance and sustainable development;
  • Implement Northern Ireland Public Procurement Policy on construction projects.

  • Brief development, feasibility studies, outline design, building surveys and drawings as described in RIBA Plan of Work.
  • Undertake part time study supported by NICS to achieve a level 5 Electrical Engineering qualification.
  • Directing and supervising contractors in undertaking works.
  • Any other relevant duties as required by line management.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Applicants must, by the closing date for applications: Have a relevant Access course with an overall mark of at least 41 ( including passes in Mathematics and a Science subject).
  • Or: Have 56 UCAS Points obtained at a Level 3 (A Level or BTech) in at least one of the following: Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering (or equivalent (or equivalent).
  • And Five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) at grades A, B or C which must include English and Mathematics.

Desirable Skills

  • In addition applicants should be aware that after an eligibility sift, should it be necessary to shortlist candidates to go forward to interview, the eligibility criteria will be enhanced and shortlisting applied in the following order:
  • A minimum of Grade C at A Level in a relevant subject (Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering (or equivalent)) or a merit in a relevant BTech or Access course.
