Job description

Development IT Apprentices will gain fundamental programming skills and develop capability to apply these to specific languages and platforms. They will develop a knowledge and understanding of the software development life cycle and contribute to the design, development, and delivery of robust, cost effective and secure business solutions. .


  • Solution Development and implementation; including responsibility for the development, implementation, delivery, support, maintenance and management of secure IT systems and services.
  • Systems Development; including the design, creation, testing and documenting of new/amended programs and involvement in designing, coding, testing, correcting, and documenting simple programs, as well as assisting in the implementation of software.
  • Database Administration – including the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of databases.
  • Information Content Authoring; including the planning, design, and creation of textual information.
  • Database/Repository Design; including involvement in the specification and design of databases to support business needs and assisting in database management system support activities.
  • Testing; including assisting in defining test requirements, creating test scripts, supporting data, interpreting, executing, and recording simple test cases in accordance with established plans.
  • Systems Design; including specification and design of information systems and their components to meet defined business needs, undertaking design of simple applications using standard templates and tools.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have applied for the 2024 joint private/public sector ICT Apprenticeship programme advertised by the Belfast Metropolitan College, in partnership with the DfE, and have successfully obtained the appropriate standard in the ICT aptitude test.
  • 2) Possess five GCSEs, at Grade C or above, which includes English Language and Mathematics AND hold at least 64 UCAS tariff points.

Desirable Skills

  • The shortlisting criteria will be based on the Test Scores. Depending on the number of applications, only those candidates who attain the highest score in the ICT aptitude test will be invited to interview.
